The official reasons identify Associate Chief Justice H. Holmes as the sentencing judge on November 17, 2020. The court’s June 22, 2018 appointment announcement verifies the full name Heather J. Holmes and the associate chief justice role.
After a guilty plea to the manslaughter of Vicki Black, Holmes accepted a joint Crown–defence ten-year submission under the Anthony-Cook public-interest test (paras. 27–29). The sentence was ten years less 425 days, expressed as 14 months, leaving eight years and ten months (paras. 31–32).
This historical record is not a finding or allegation of misconduct or neglect, and does not attribute Laroche’s death to the sentencing judge. Present office/status has not been re-audited by this historical case review.
